For those interested in Assimil: it's a great system. You listen, read, speak and 'assimilate' language, picking up grammar points gradually as you learn rather than having a load of facts pressed against your face.

Also, the lessons are really quirky in the German course. This one is about a guy complaining that his tea is cold, getting a replacement and then complaining about the cup. Later on you have a man eating a parrot sent as a gift, someone scared of ghosts, etc. Great fun to read.
