This is a video of a project started few years ago, which aimed at recreating a 1991 Amiga game called Moonstone.

The video is recorded live, in front of a large Plasma TV, taken from two players fighting each others in debug mode (You should be able to hear the button pressing). It was great fun and a great inspiration in order to develop future ideas, better thought and more polished.

The graphics were Work In Progress, just as the combat, as it was part of the early stages of the project, and the music and SFX borrowed from the original game to keep its original "feel" even though we never really planned it to keep them that way.

The Youtbue compression is a bit dodgy, and does not make it justice in the slightest of ways, so later on we might think of something else to show our work at it's best.

Currently this project is no longer being worked on, because for as much as we love and respect Moonstone, it is not in our intentions to steal their ideas and profit on them, so we've started our own brand new game IP which will retain the same "spirit" games such as Moonstone have.

This new Independent game project is called Astaroth, and you are welcome to join us at http://astaroth-game.com/ by registering over the forums, and provide your feedback and ideas, or if you got the talents, join the team.

I hope you will enjoy watching it as we enjoyed making it, and don't forget to watch until the end for a surprise!

  • This is very good though the swords seem a bit over sized

  • @BrondolfrMadhorse The sword was by design choice made "thicker" due to the fact hat real proportions and details are lost at that size, so things like hands and feet are made slightly bigger, this is only a standard when it comes to game art, however if you refer to length, that IS a greatsword, which realistically are over 2 meters long, and a regular human size is about 1.80m, and the size of the blade you see is not even longer than the knight wielding it, so if anything t'is too short ;)

  • Great job! And come on, you don't need copyrights to make game similar to one another, it happens all the time. As far as I know, you can't even patent a a game. You just don't have rights to use Moonstone title, which is not so important.

  • @CRAP4RTIST Most of us in the team, work full-time into the videogame industry, and we often see cases where the limitations in design due to copyrights reasons are an issue.

But if you check the comment underneath the video and the last line in the credits of the video itself, you will see that we ARE in fact working on a title inspired to moonstone, so you might want to keep an eye on it, if you will like it or not, that is another question :)

  • @BlackRabbitDigitalP Yes, I've noticed there's another title. I was actually on it's site and tried to register on forum, but only got a message, that administrator have to activate my account, and nothing happened since then.

  • @CRAP4RTIST I do apologise for the inconvenience, if you email me your forum name, I will do so immediately.

  • This is amazing!

  • We need more games like this. The whole modern 3d FPS stuff is really boring. This is how combat system should be implemented in RPGs. I remember you had to use reflexes to win fights in Moonstone, but you also could get better gear.

  • Great!

  • awesome!!!

  • @BlackRabbitDigitalP Ok, I'll do that, thanks.
