The final steps in the cermic realm for the steampunk group otherwise know as "Dragon Wells Steam Works" After this I cut and solder found gears from a few clocks and a typewriter. finally gluing it in the "gearholes" gear holes they are then sealed with glass that has been copper foiled, soldered and glued with silicone. The gauges were finished with acrylic only on the inside. and sealed again with glass or in some cases a watch crystal. more pictures of the finished work can be seen on my blog

  • do you fire cone 10 oxidation or reduction ?

  • These are fired to cone six then a luster firing.

  • Would you mind explaining what these things are. Teapots and sugars and creamers that look like oil cans? I can't picture them in my china cabinet. Do they have a function other than as conversation pieces? I'm not asking to make you mad. Sorry, but I just don't get it. Are they art? Are they functional? I like your other pieces much better.

  • Well I'm glad you asked rather than thought me crazy. Much of my earlier work was very soft slick almost girly. To broaden my range I wanted to stretch to the opposite realm. I made a few and someone said "steampunk"!!! So I checked it out and decided that It and I were a go fit. Now I am pushing the boundaries of myself and the expectations of clay. They function Very well and do as a proper cream and sugar should do they just look different. Not everyone should get it, they are not main stream

  • Hey great work! what is the Bronze glaze your using?

  • I am not to sure of any of my glazes many are made and fiddled with in the bucket. On these pieces there is a mix of Manganese redart and iron. Other glazes are commercial saturated gold and red underglaze.
