@jyouknit My wife awere in the Letterman audience last year, and I know how much they pump up the crowd before the show. It seems totally DUMB for Seinfeld and Michael Richards to choose a comedy show as the forum for an ultra-serious apology like that. How can they blame the audience for laughing? It's painful to watch on youtube, so I can't imagine how awkward it was to be there. It's kind of awesome that you were there, though. :)

I don't know why so many comedians have such reverence for Jerry Seinfeld. The guy is the most unhumorous hack in hollywood
Seinfeld was a great sitcom, but Jerry didn't even write for his own show... ever. Phony cocksucker

@Martin211191 its honestly a pretty funny and awkward apology. i laughed quite a bit. He said so many odd things and had so many silences throughout the apology I don't understand why more people didn't bust up laughing. Also, I "hate so much" Letterman for not being funny.

They are laughing because first of all, the way this is set up is very awkward, it looks like a comedy bit at the beginning. They also laugh because Richard's obviously doesn't understand what he did, and he uses out-of-touch words like Afro-American. This was completely the wrong venue, Jerry should not have been there, and Richards is sooo clueless. It is more nervous laughter than anything else, the kind of nervous laughter that happens when you are watching a trainwreck.

fuckin niggers are bunch of cry babys wen a black comedian says nigger or make any other race jokes no one says shit but a white comedian says nigger and they start to cry fuckin niggers are the most cry baby race in america no wonder everyone hates niggers

those freakin letterman fans are fucking retarded y r they gonna laugh when he's tryin to apologize
-
why the fuck are the audience laughing? sure what he did was wrong. but its retarded why are they laughing.....
I hate so much Letterman's audience....they always laugh....when there is no point on laughing....i mean a do think Richards went over the line with the racist insults but if he is trying to apologize then Letterman's audience should have a little more common sense and learn when is a good time to be quiet...

Now, if Chris Rock went on a tirade on some white hecklers, calling them Wonder-Bread, Cracker, etc... no one would have blinked an eye or would have shit to say. God forbid a white man gives a few blacks a taste of "equality." .....
