I like this much better than The Two Gilberts version. The Irish Rovers and Lonnie Donegan do a nice job on it too.

This is the one of the best original versions. I grew up hearing a rendition by Benny Goodman and his orchestra. That version keeps the spearmint in and adds the verse: here comes the blushing bride, the groom right at her side, to the altar steady as Gibraltar, the bridegroom has the ring, it's such a pretty thing, he puts it on her finger and the choir begins to sing: does the spearmint lose its flavour on the bedpost overnight... Is this a genuine band or a masquerade for another better known group? A great song, I didn't know it was as old as this and I would choose this over the later version any day!

Yes, it is a genuine band. Leslie Jeffries recorded 1924-1926 usually for Aco. His records do not turn up very often.
