"Are We Going to die in our religion or are we going to die in our devotion?"

A challenge by David Platt, pastor of Brook Hills Church in Birmingham, AL. The sermon clips are from the one he preached at the SBC Conference in Louisville, KY back in '09... the song is "First Breath After Coma" by Explosions in the Sky. Hope you enjoy... even though I made it on the extremely ghetto Windows Movie Maker.

  • (cont.) then he could just redeem everybody and send is straight to heaven. Please open your eyes people and instead of sending stupid mission trips to these nations to convert them, go over there and help them rebuild and feed them just for the sake of empathy and love for your fellow man. Not because some imaginary tool commands you to and then creates every bump along the way.

  • @slakey941 Your logic makes complete sense from a non-Christian's perspective... and you're right - it would be pointless to try and give biblical reason to you for the accusations you've made upon the God of the Bible. You seem pretty defiant against Christianity & I'm sure you have good reason. I just hope that other Christians don't chime in and turn this into a classic, youtube-comment-theological-argument. In all seriousness though, will ya give me one comment to share something?

  • I just read a few comments & wanted to say one little thing, lol. 1st, I love Platt & all that he stands for & the fact that God is using him, I go to Brookhill, so def. have nothing against him at all. But I see so much hate on Joel Osteen. God is using him in just a mighty way as he uses Platt. He is a man of God & shouldn't be bashed because he does things differently than Platt. No one knows what God's plan is for Osteen. He is a peace maker, not a perfect man. No one but Jesus is that.

  • @kaylawlz314 Go check out John Piper's "Prosperity Gospel" youtube video to understand a little better...

  • @kaylawlz314 Nobody is judging "rich Christians"... although that is kind of a paradoxical phrase... the problem is that Joel Osteen, along with other pastors are preaching a message that tells people they will be EARTHLY rich as well as/instead of HEAVENLY rich. The goal of being a Christian is to get CHRIST, not earthly possessions. Not only that, but he has openly denied that Jesus is the only way to Heaven... THAT is why Osteen and others are considered false prophets.

  • The song in the background is by a band called Explosions in the Sky, the track is "First Breath After Coma"

  • @everyonehere This video was absolutely phenomenal!! I know that I need to do more in my life and David has really shown me this. I want to save the kids with AIDS, and the Indonesian's that suffer so neelessly. God I want to fuck the shit out of Jesus I'm so HAPPY!!! Does anyone else think that the cure to AIDS is Jesus' prolapsed anus juice?!?!?

  • @kaylawlz314 I agree, there is way too much hate towards him. No follower of Jesus should hate Joel Osteen, instead we should pray for him and encourage him if at all possible. Hate has no place with self-righteous judgement of a brother in Jesus (I believe he is born-again, but can't ultimately know for sure). Why do we spend so much time focusing on the speck in our brother's eye when there is a plank in our own eye?! I have had false beliefs and sin just as Osteen has/had. I should love him.

  • Our church, Antioch Community Church in Waco, TX. was criticized by the NYT for rebuilding a village & several hundred homes in Sri Lanka post-tsunami. We also shared the gospel, hundreds came Christ since then and we also planted a church there, where we have a team of long-term workers. The media got on us for helping but also preaching Jesus, just like they did with the Dayna Curry & Heather Mercer captivity in Afghanistan (they're from Antioch, too). We are called to help AND prech Jesus.

  • @slakey941 Any true follower of Jesus would be lacking integrity and obedience if we went to help them rebuild and feed them, but did not share the gospel of salvation through Jesus. Put aside for a moment whether you are a believer or not, for Christians, we are under a commission to preach the gospel AND also help with human needs. For any who love Jesus, practical help must go hand in hand with sharing the truth of salvation or else we're only giving half of what others need. It's integrity.

  • @aumaverick15 thank you! :)

  • @slakey941 We can blame God all we want but he is God and it is our mess up in life.

  • Whats this song behind it called?

  • (cont.) would be the biggest sadistic bastard ever imaginable for creating something and knowing he was going to send them to the worst fate ever, but still "loving" them. Don't try to argue with me and give me some bullshit biblical explanation because it won't make sense no matter what kind of christian language you drag it through. If god created everything than he created sin, the devil, cancer, pain, death, good, evil, etc... EVERYTHING! If he was all powerful and wanted us to be redeemed
