Most of those "weird formations" are either dunes caused by the wind flowing through canyons or places where the ground has cracked. The hole is most likely either a volcano or a sinkhole.

The problem is we look for life on other planets by using what we know about what we need to live . We need to consider that what we need to live may not be needed by other beings . Here's another example they found a bacteria recent here on earth that defies everything they thought they knew about DNA .

The out of place rock is clearly a meteorite, the discoloration on the bottom is known as fusion crust... they other stuff is compelling though!

for all we know things could live under the surface of the planet and we would have no idea since theres no way for us to actually dig and find things or to drill deep or use ultrasonic to see under the surface of the planet. theres just no way we are the only living things in the universe and people that think that we are, are just foolish we are just a spec of dust in the scale of the universe us being the only ones is just not possible theres more building blocks to life than we know of.
