Prototype, single sided, single motor pan & tilt AutoKAP rig in mid development stage.

This is my first experiment with kite photography.

The rig uses a modified S3003 servo, Technic Lego 24 and 8 tooth gears, two worm gears and a 555 timer circuit to provide pan and tilt actions.

Eight cycles of the pan axis gives a single cycle of the tilt axis.

The timer circuit is fully adjustable, currently driving for 2 seconds and pausing for 2 seconds. The plan is to synchronise this with a CHDK intervalometer.

Total weight approximately 400g including camera and all batteries.

  • Thanks for your comment, I still have some fine tuning to do.

The camera is heavy at the battery end, I can add spacers between the timer enclosure/battery box and the frame to ballance things out side to side, I can also make the camera slide back and forth to ballance it that way.

I was careful to pivot the tilt axis through the CofG of the camera, and am happy with that.

  • The swing of the picavet seems to show that the weight is not balanced.
