For one thing look at that ditch at the end of the runway. Ditch, road...whatever it is. Why don't they bridge that ravine exactly for this reason...in case of an over-run. The plane probably would have survived intact and nobody injured of they had been able to simply roll across that sunken road. Either bridge the road or make it level with the runway. Road would remain useable if they kept it low and bridged the over-run area.
