Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736)

'Adriano in Siria' (1734)
Dramma per musica in 3 acts

Libretto: Pietro Metastasio

Osroa's aria (Act II)

Leon piagato a morte
sente mancar la vita,
guarda la sua ferita,
né s'avvilisce ancor.

Così nell'ore estreme
rugge, minaccia e freme,
che fa tremar morendo
tal volta il cacciator.

  • Who knows where I can find this aria? for piano and voice??? sheetmusic i mean... on the internet... =(.... I desperately need it.

  • I doubt very much that something like this exists...

  • Well, I'm surprised. Comming in blind, I would have bet money that I would have prefered the Bach. But now that you put them head to head, I like this one better.

  • I kind of agree but then again I feel that Bach's setting is more "correct" in a way.

But it's rather hard to compare really, everything is so different about the two videos (sound quality, singer, orchestra etc).

  • Quiet an exciting aria, (and a beautiful masculine voice). Bravo!

  • A voice quite perfect for those parts of monarchs.

Many tenors who sing this repertoire have very light voices - not enough authority.

  • Thanks for pointing that out. After 4 more listenings of each, I can say the Accademia Bizantena recording is more HiFi, and Allemano is in better voice.

But it is the accompaniment that does it for me. The rush of horns and particularly the bowing. It anticipates (Influences?) the young Gluck, who always gets me dancing.

Thanks for contrasting the 2. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

  • Good point; I totally agree with you.

  • yeeeeeeeeeeea! ( - ;
