Further episode in the web documentary series about the role of landscape in Japanese art culture and society. Architecture of the Morimichi period was designed to reveal or disclose nature through a framing process, highlighting or drawing attention to particular features to create a given effect. Also the system of sliding screens could reveal the outside world so that it seemingly entered the home and the home extended out into the natural world through balconies and pathways bring together in a unity to separate realities in the spirit of Zen Buddhism which so permeates Japanese culture.
