And this doesn't just apply to players like Staubach....the COACHING back then was on a level that is simply gone nowadays. NFL coaches, especially in the last five years of the NFL, it's just embarassing how dumbed down the game has become. When you look at what we have now compared to the likes of Lombardi, Landry, Noll, Schula, Grant, etc....today's coaching doesn't even come close. Higher level of play back then, higher level of coaching. Higher respect for the game, period.
I'm sorry, no disrespect mean to younger NFL fans, but unless you saw this era of the NFL and saw the men who played the game then, you will have a very hard time understanding why so many people bash the NFL and what it has become today. The game was played at a HIGHER level by a higher class of human beings, period. Yeah, there were scandals and things like there always are, but there was a GREATER respect for the fundamentals of the game back then, and it showed on the field. Period.
@txfreethinker Exactly! He was humble, but he STILL had a hell of a fire to compete. Having humility and respect for the game doesn't mean he didn't also have a drive to win!
Staubach was a LEADER on the field, and like any leader in combat, he rose the level of performance of his troops around him.
Anybody dares to say f'n Romo is better than Staubach because Romo has more 300 yd. games, etc, is delusional. Staubach = leader, Romo = leader WANNABE
@StaubachComebach Thank you so much, it's good to know there are other football fans out there who understand this and recognize it! That era of the NFL was a class above, we'll never see the likes of it again. Today's NFL is a mere shadow of the greatness it was back then. I agree with you 100%, any true football fan must learn and know about past players like Staubach if there is ANY hope of them truly appreciating professional football!!
Not just in cowboys, but in the nfl, we need people who are as classy and dignified as this guy. These days we have classless shits like Brendan Jacobs (and almost the entire New York Giant team behind him), Ndamukong Suh, Brian Cushing, DeSean Jackson, and Santonio Holmes. What a bunch of thugs to represent America's favorite pastime.

He was the best. It didn't matter if they were down by two touchdowns with less than a minute to play, I would never leave the game because there was a good chance he would pull it out. I miss those days.

Nice compilation of footage... but why post the mirror images of all the clips? (At least Drew Pearson's no. 88 looks normal) ;)
