Sarah Chayes has been living and working in Kandahar, Afghanistan since 2001, when she covered the fall of the Taliban for National Public Radio. In 2002 she left journalism to help rebuild the shattered country whose fate will help determine the shape of the 21st century, working first with Afghans for Civil Society, and currently with Arghand, a cooperative producing fine skin-care products from local fruits, nuts and botanicals. The Washington Post described her book, "The Punishment of Virtue: Inside Afghanistan After the Taliban," as "sharply observed, fearlessly told." Prior to her assignment in Afghanistan, Chayes reported for NPR in the Balkans, North Africa and the Middle East. Along with members of her NPR team, she was recognized by the Foreign Press for her reporting in Kosovo.

  • you are the nation which makes problem not only in afghanistan also in the rest of the world

  • your are not honest to my people,if you were all the business were finished on 2003 this was usa started supporting Taliban only because of your existence

  • who are you to talk about Pashto or Dari, this is your foreigner which made us all these problems

  • But, seriously now, I have read your book and it is very informative. Some of your thoughts might be considered as paternalistic for a woman. lol. Seem a bit odd since you write citing a woman's perspectives in Afghand agribusiness interests and some. Xe boys are watching your back and you place them on the cross hairs, or IED etc, as well. Mentoring heh? ANA Dari v Pashtun? good advise on your website. SOD must take heed.

  • So does this make you a Pashtuni Avatar??? lol. Just seen the movie and you came to mind.

  • ya know, she is General McChristol's top advisor at this point.

  • Why cant the west understand that some people don't like the US and don't want to be like the US. Maybe the US and others should just back off instead of causing more friction and more justification for Taliban to fight back.

  • She offers the idea of people helping people, instead of just throwing money at the problem and paying the Taliban to give the US troops safe passage of personnel, arms, food and everything else. I still have doubts about the military solution to Afghanistan. I doubt that most soldiers treat the Afghans with empathy.

  • I love this woman, she is brilliant, brave and honest.

  • wow, i SOO want to troll, but i cant :(

    This woman Is SOOOO GOOD!

    keep up the good work

    Thank you so very much
