66 Spitfire Start-up .mov

A 66 spitfire in Lightning garb. Bought this cheap and found out that it was a matching numbers Spitfire. I was told that it ran when I bought it but the spark plug hole was stripped out so it needed to be fixed before I could start it. 6 months later this is the bike being started. The smoke scared me a little until the wet sump cleared. To many other projects and I went to England for a month made me postpone this start up. Imaging my happiness when it started on the third kick!!!! Now that I know it is a Spitfire I will search out the correct parts to restore it.

Thank You, It actually never happens anymore. This was the first the bike had been started in several years and I expected it to happen when I bought it. Sorry about your brother. Photos are always welcome

It was only running for a few minutes when the smoke cleared so it must not have been to bad. The bike was sitting for years. Now it sits for months sometimes and is the only one that doesnt wet sump like the others

Nice bike. I have a Norton and this use to happen all the time till I rebuilt it in 1999 and put in a inline valve that stops this from happening anymore. My departed brother had one of these. I can sen you a pic or two if you want. Ride safe!
