Each Spring, the Central Florida theme parks and resorts burst with additional brilliant yellow, pink and purple as the Tabebuia trees explode in blossoms. Tabebuia is a spectacular tree, and this highlight video has bold music to match.
Tabebuia trees originated in South America, and about nine varieties are in Florida. The most common Tabebuia ("tab-eh-boo-yuh") is a purple-pink variety called "Ippy" (short for Impetiginosa). The most spectacular Tabebuia are the yellows, often the variety Chrysotricha.
Each tree blooms for two to three weeks. Each local group of trees bursts into color in different weeks, reacting to their own local levels of sunlight and temperature. You usually can see the trees in bloom somewhere in the parks, from February to April. Sometimes individual trees get an early start in January.
This video darts among video shot in the 2011 season, through the Disney, SeaWorld, Busch Gardens and Universal resorts.
