-Right when you get them mist them with straight water. That will give them a drink, don't drown them though. The Sugar Syrup is a 1/1 ratio(1 cup of water-1cup of sugar).Bring the mixture to a raging boil then remove from heat.Stir until syrup is clear in color, not milky looking. *******Don't do your NAILS like I did in the video********Instead tap them in on the side of the cage that the queen will come out of(the side you removed the cork from with candy) and have a pair of pliers handy-bend the nails at 90 degrees. The goal is to have the queen cage hang down at least 1/2 inch so the bees can eat the candy and release her.If you do it like I did in the video when you put your lid on there was not enough room for her to get out!!! I had to fix it-learn from my mistake and good luck. You will do great. P.S.-My pump bottle took a little bit of effort to get it to spray the syrup at first, you may have to dilute it a little bit to spray better.
Very timely for me -- my two packages are due to arrive on the 26th of this month! I'll be watching this several times over before then. I'm so excited to embark on this new hobby. My initial goal is to not kill them. What is the ratio of water to sugar that you use for your spray sugar syrup and is that the same "stuff" you feed them with? Thanks.
