Although kitesurfing is an extreme sport its safety record is improving due to advances in hybrid and bow kite designs and the depower that they provide, safety release systems, and instructions, however there are numerous deaths every year, and injuries due to body drag on land and water, hitting obstacles on land or water, and getting entangled in the lines have happened.
