This is a cool conga rhythm called Rumba Abierta. I use this a lot in band situations when switching from a medium tempo tumbao to a double time feel.

This was filmed with a Kodak zi6 in VGA mode.

  • Sounds great Dave! Would sound even better if you sent those tumbadoras to me and let me re-skin them with cow instead of the water buffalo you have on there!

  • Hey thanks!, they sound way better in real life but I am sure those heads would be a huge improvement. I skinned my own congas (my valjes) once, that was enough for me!

  • nice tip. how much did the new camera set you back? i'm looking for my first vid cam to put up some vids.

  • Thanks! The camera is a kodak zi6, I just got it at bestbuy for $129 bucks. It does a nice job for the money, the sound is pretty good, it does HD and it is only about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

  • this is a great rhythm! thanx! can you please explain the left hand motions? :)

  • isnt this columbia???

  • How about putting some mules on those sweet drums. Boy they would have some sweet sounding slaps!

  • Valjes, alright! Anytime, let me know...we re-skin all kinds of drums here at Earthshaking all day long. I'm happy to share some tips with you if you ever do one again yourself.

  • this is great but i'd love it if you could re-post from a 3/4 angle or from behind over your shoulder as i find the full frontal view very confusing to mirror... i'm always thinking about which hand is doing what rather than how to actually play the thing! cheers though, this is a very well explained and demonstrated video in all other respects, greetings from sunny england

  • ive been playing for a couple of months, im sixteen and i play for my dads group. im nothing special, jus know all the basics. but this really helps me and my dad. thank you
