Our sense of personal value sometimes feels like it moves up or down. How can this be? How can your value change? The ideas of personal value were really opened up in the 1950's by Carl Rogers. In this film I illustrate the way that you give your value to other people to manipulate at will. I fyousuffer from depression, anxiety or stress then you may perform the actions I describe, at least some of the itme. Recognition of this fact is the first step to changing things for the better.

  • Lilie, Carl Rogers was heavily into research but that trend tended to diminsh after his death. Whereas the CBT research program really kicked off. Rogerian work can be as effective in general cases as CBT but I think that it does not fit as well wih the zietgeist.

  • Thank you for your encouragement. Watch out for a new film on anxiety in the next few days.

  • filipas: thanks for the suggestion I am sorry I had not realized the potential for ambiguity.

  • Thanks for your comment. I think that the next film I post may answer your questions more fully. i fyou can wait for that, it will be posted in a few days.

  • That does seem like a negative interpretation. It is always inportant to start from where you are and move forward in a direction, more or less of your choosing, What has passed is passed but making your future turn out how you want it to be is a consequence of putting effort into making changes in the present that are in line with your goals for yourself.

  • thank you for this video, i can find it's a lot of logic in what you're saying.. i wish this was a big part of our school system :)

  • Top notch!

  • I believe because a megalomaniacal sado-maso-christ and his lackies have money-pulated me.

  • @filipasusanafreitas My suggestion is: try to keep away from people who hate you, as far as possible.

Low esteem is not altogether a bad thing if it means you will act in a more humble manner, but not if you are harming yourself or others as a consequence.

  • I am in my third year of getting my B.A. in psychology specific to substance abuse. My primary guide of theoretical orientation will primarily be Cognitive added with R.E.B.T. with my future clients. I find it interesting that Rogerian therapy is glossed over to a large degree. I know that it is absolutely client centered, perhaps this takes more work on the part of the therapist to practice?

  • I am really able to relate your video from my day to day situation's, after watching your video, I am really feeling very confident.
