An event which took place a couple of years ago. Before you post a knee-jerk reaction along the lines of "this is a terrible thing to do" please listen to the commentary on this film, which was an interview on Radio Scotland about the event.

  • That was a stupid way to promote recycling.

Burning books has negative connotations. poorly done

  • Simpleton.

  • I listened the comments, am an openminded person, hopefully, but still find this repugnant in every way posible. If done as fun somehow by teens, or as social artsy happening, allright, but it seems you have some sort of BS escape theory about it that just cover your lack of understanding of mankind symbolism of The Book and The Knowldge, that even Hitler and Mao and other notoriusly autodafe guys in fact HAD! They understood at least what they were defiantly doing.

  • Apart from the rambling incoherency of your comment (what's an escape theory? And autodafe?) you are clearly not an open minded person, and why do you find it acceptable to burn books as a "social artsy happening" but feel entitled to condemn our event, which was exactly that, but with a message about recycling attached to it? People whose minds are as closed as yours present far more of a threat to freedom than someone who burns a few knackered/damaged old paperbacks to get rid of them.

  • Autodafe is burning at stake people like Giordano Bruno or Miguel Servet. Used also for burning books. Look, dude, if you want to send a message about recycle why didn't you just recycled them. I cant see how wasting them thru fire means "recycle".

  • This just shows precisely that you are not in the least bit open minded. If you'd bothered to listen to the whole thing you'd have seen that the reason we staged this event was to highlight the fact that there are no recycling facilities in our area, but you clearly didn't listen, and instead decided to project your own twisted interpretation of our motives and condemn our event as "repugnant in every way possible". Don't ever describe yourself as open minded, you aren't.

  • You know what you could do instead of throwing them away to a landfill or burning them? Rip them up, and throw them in a recycling bin. Or, if you're gonna burn them, offer them up for free first. If you told people that the books would be burned if they weren't taken, people would (more than likely) line up to take the books home, regardless of book quality.

  • That's awesome

  • This is silly...you don't have to put them in a Landfill....just bury them just below surface level, or even put them in the woods, just lying around on the ground. They would "Degrade" the same as fallen trees would.

After a few months or so, they would be degraded to dirt!

  • Lol, I'm almost afraid to comment, lest I should be subject to Bythric's forked tongue. It reminds me of the old testaments propaganda; "believe as I believe, or I'll tell you why you're wrong! No opinion shall exsist outside of mine!" Lol, good luck with that.. and with your "book burning for education" theory..

  • Ooooh, so they're not burning them because they're religious nuts, they're burning them because they're just old and in bad condition. Well I guess that's more forgivable, although with the lame audio quality (too much treble and volume level is way too low) I couldn't actually tell -that- is why they were doing it.

  • Zeig heil burn ze books.

  • oh...ok thx

  • Thats what they explain they're burning the books because they're at the point of damage charities won't take them and rather then leave them to rot in a landfill they burn them.
