Hiking water filter

On any long distance hike where you can't carry enough water it's important you have some way of purifying your water. Boiling water is the most reliable way but also the most inefficient and time consuming way. If you don't like the taste of tablets and chemicals, a water filtration system is the next best choice. We chose the Katadyn Vario and tested it on our 28 mile, 3 day hike on the AT, Appalachian Trail. Very fast and efficient.

I would suggest bringing a nylon hiking bucket (the collapse and fold but are made of water proof nylon) and you fill the bucket up and let the sediment settle and then use the filter. This does two things you get calm cleanish water (makes the filter last longer) and you have a static water height so your bobber will float. Hope this helps
