---------------------------------------
"CHINESE SOUL" is Beijing-based guitarist Werner Tian Fischer's (Berklee Alumnus) third release on ALTRISUONI RECORDS and his second album entirely made up of his original jazz compositions. Jan Krohn, lyricist for the legendary band Starfish and author of the unparalleled novel 'Xica', enhanced the music with his trademark lyrics. WERNER FISCHER'S TRAVELOGUE features the outstanding Swedish singer Sophie Dunér, Swiss shooting-star Jürg Wickihalder on Sopranosax and - for the first time ever - on Tenor, Gabriel Schiltknecht on drums and Berlin-based bassist Nesin Howhannesijan.
After having spent the last years largely reflecting on his musical roots as on "All Standard Guitars" (CD Altrisuoni AS 272) and "The Sam Trümpy Memorial Jazz Coalition" (CD Altrisuoni AS 282), or the historian's point of view as in Bruno Spöerri's book 'Jazz in der Schweiz'), Werner Tian Fischer decided to record his own material as the first decade of the new century came to its close. While revising the material he asked lyricist Jan Krohn to provide some of the songs with his trademark lyrics.
For the recording session he called upon his long-time musical collaborators Jürg Wickihalder and Gabriel Schiltknecht as well as bassist Nesin Howhannesijan from Berlin whom he first met and played with in 2000 in Boston and the outstanding Swedish vocalist Sophie Dunér.
The recording session took place on April 12/13, 2010 in the Hardstudios, Winterthur.
Recording engineer and co-producer was Patrik Schwitter.
