Fighting Crime in U.S. Cities - House Oversight Committee 1999-03-03 - Product 121734-1-DVD - U.S. House of Representatives. House Committee on Government Reform and Oversight. Mr. Shorstein testified about the federal government's role in helping state and local governments fight crime. He talked about Jacksonville's approach to reducing juvenile crime and showed a video about Jacksonville's juvenile crime prevention program. Mr. Timoney talked about a new approach for police officers called "Compstat" that has been effective in reducing crime in the most densely populated cities in the United States. Mr. Cheetham showed slides on "Compstat" which is a program that uses a method called crime mapping. He explained that maps and charts are used to visualize the geography of the area covered, and the crime that is being committed in those areas. Filmed by C-SPAN. Non-commercial use only.
