Part of a recording of an interview of Jelly Roll Morton by Alan Lomax in 1938. Jazz history archive material. Jelly sings and plays Buddy Bolden Blues, and tells of his experiences watching Buddy in New Orleans, and talks about the great Buddy Bolden. "Buddy was the blowinest man since Gabriel!".

  • Hehe gotta love this guy talking...

did any of the members of Bolden's band make recordings?

(Except Bunk Johnson, who I know about)

A film might be good but i'm not getting my hopes up... I mean they can barely make a decent bio of living person, let alone someone people know very little about.

  • @busessuck1 Bolden's bass player Albert Glenny recorded with Ken Colyer in N.O. in 1953

  • @busessuck1 There were many musicians who played with Buddy Bolden occasionally and would record later such as Bud Scott, Albert Glenny, Ed Garland, Big Eye Louis Nelson. When Bolden died his band was taken over by his trombonist Frankie Duson and called the Eagle Band. Many famous jazz musicians played in that band in their earlier years like King Oliver.

  • I seriosly don't understand why Bolden is considered as the father of

jazz music?he did made none records(no records survived if he even

made some)Jelly Roll Morton is the father of jazz.

  • "Ole Buddy Bolden...

    Wherever he lay,

Knows that the line was his to say...

" It's not what you play, ..... It's just in the way..."

  • theres a book caled 'coming through slaughter"..

  • buddy bolden was the father of jazz and b4 jelly roll! morton was jealous of Bolden being the father of jazz

  • Bolden the movie is going to be great I'm sure of it!

  • @BuffaloSoldier9423 Are you Mingus's dad? It'd make so much sense if you were.
