A Brooklyn Center teen has pleaded guilty to the brutal beating of an 82-year-old neighbor this spring.
Sixteen-year-old Orlando Shabarus Fitzgerald was sentenced yesterday to 12 years in prison for the attack on Norm Arneson.
When police arrived March 22nd, they found the front door open and Arneson kneeling on the floor by his couch, covered in blood.
Arneson needed two brain surgeries to recover and spent several weeks in the hospital.
A Brooklyn Park teen also arrested in the case told police the two were broke and decided to rob Arneson to get some money.
State Representative Debra Hilstrom wants some answers from MnDOT following a traffic light outage at a busy intersection in Brooklyn Center late last week.
Stoplights at the intersection of Highway 252 and 66th Avenue were out for nearly two and a half hours on Friday.
MnDOT technicians knew of the problem, but did not notify local law enforcement.
A two-car collision occurred during the outage, and while no one was seriously injured, Hilstrom says it could have been a lot worse.
She wants to know the departments policy about notifying local law enforcement and if Commissioner Tom Sorel intends to review that policy in light of the recent crash.
