The University of Oregon's On the Rocks perform their YouTube viral video hit, Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" (with some "Poker Face" and "Paparazzi") on the second night of the West Coast A Cappella Showcase, November 6, 2010, at Wheeler Auditorium, the University of California, Berkeley. The annual two-night event, celebrating its 10th anniversary, is hosted by the California Golden Overtones and the UC Men's Octet.

Featuring Jeff Rogers, Micah Joyner, David Ozog
Arrangement by Josh Heying

"Bad Romance" is on their latest album, "A Fifth," available at iTunes.

On the Rocks (group of current members and alumni) competed against nine other a cappella groups on THE SING-OFF on NBC. On December 15, during the last episode before the finale, the judges decided to not have OtR continue and they finished in fifth place.

  • @lthomig3 they do have major shoes to fill, but when this video was taken (I was there that night) the group had really only been together about a month, we can't expect them to emulate the original version they did last year after losing 6 seniors and only being together a month.

  • The Orignal Group ( Jonah/Nick/Teigh/Josh/Jacob) and etc were better at performing the song. Nothing against the new soloist, just not the same. Needs More Improvement

  • This is just amazing! My kind of entertainment! Raw Raw Ah Ah Ah! :D

  • @titanduce Ah... sorry misunderstood... from what I've gotten from pictures and postings is that only the final taping was filmed live and they flew everyone back out and everything else was pre-recorded and then televised. I'm saying as such because the backbeats have a video of them, street corner symphony, committed, and jerry lawson's group singing one of the songs scs performed and making a comment how they all missed each other.

  • @southernbeautybelle It's not the fact that they are re-performing the song. It is this, someone in this thread said that they just recently saw this particular performance. The debate was why is it that some IN THIS PERFORMANCE were also ON TV during the running of the season. Yes, we understand pre-recording but were also trying to figure out how far and how "live" it truly is.

  • @titanduce Some of the guys who performed on the Sing Off are no longer in the group... one of them being Peter who actually founded the group back in '99. So that's why some of the guys in this video were in the viral and on the show.

  • the seniors are greatly missed!! . . . however, these guy's have shown a good potential, to be together for a month and put that performance together shows huge potential for the future. . hope to see big things from these guys!!

  • they should have retired this song after the old group left :( it was good, but i really miss the old guys. and teigh's awesome dance moves lol

  • @thevanishingirl I'm in a group similar to these American a capella groups and we also have people leaving when they graduate. However, whenever there's a huge event (like in this case participating on the Sing-Off) those older member rejoin the current group, because they raise the average quality level. So my theory is: alumni rehearsing for the big show while the current group also takes care of the "regular everyday performances".

  • I'm in an university group in my country (the Portuguese equivalent of the American a capella groups) and every year we deal with the same problem: the best/older members graduate and leave, while new members join in.

I understand what some are writing about not liking this new line up as much as the older one, but in my opinion it was a bad decision to let those two guys do the solos. The problem is not their style, it's their tempo and tuning (the last one is incapable of reaching the note).

  • Will need some gettin'-use-to-the-new-line up.. A few more months would do the trick.

  • @carpat90 Thanks
