Una aclaración: "peon masses" = "masas de peones". Es que como está traducido ("peón de masas") no es todo lo peyorativo que Bill pretende al hablar del populacho (está hablando en plural).

I can explain this: the heckler yelled 'freebird' because back in the late 80's Chicago Loop radio talk show host, Kevin Matthews, used to tell people to say that at any kind of concert venue (which is why he says Kevin Matthews after 'Freebird'). He says 'Jim Shorts,' because that was a character that Kevin Matthews would play during his radio show and it was a pretty obnoxious schtick to get the fans to laugh. Bill kinda over-reacted to say the least. Wow, was he a high strung dude.
