In this video I am implementing a Parallax Mapping or Relief Mapping Shader in HLSL. The differences are really subtle between all these techniques, so I don't really know.
Anyway about the artifacts, it seems like the issue was simply that I had the parallax effect too strongly.
So here is a picture of a better looking set of parameters, with Texture and Normal Mapping for comparison.
