"excuse me, SHE'S AUTISTIC" is a film project which aims to educate the viewer on the daily trials of a single Mom raising an autistic daughter.
Autism is a disorder that can affect the way a child behaves, thinks, communicates, and interacts with others. Kids with autism are affected in different ways. Some have only mild symptoms and grow up to live independently, while others have more severe symptoms and need supported living and working environments throughout their lives.
Autism affects up to one in every 175 school-age children, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Approximately 300,000 school-aged kids have been diagnosed with the disorder. It's more common in boys than girls, and is usually diagnosed when a child is between 15 and 36 months old, although signs of the disorder can show up earlier.
Parents of a child with autism are often desperate to get help. Some parents of kids with severe autism may find that a child's needs overwhelm the family's ability to live peacefully.

  • I think that this type of view is ridiculous! I have worked with people that have autism, and I have friend's that have autism, Autism is a spectrum disorder, meaning there are different severity of the disorder. Who says a person who has Autism can't think deeply? Maybe they think more deeply then 90% of the world that makes shallow assumptions? I think individuals with Autism are some of the brightest most thoughtful people I know... and HOW DARE you say otherwise.

  • consider it valid, would you not. It's like two people trying to carry on a conversation, one speaking Russian, and the other Japanese. They can each be sharing great philosophy and how to solve the world's problems, but if they can't understand each other's language, neither will appreciate how deep the other's thoughts are. In answer to the obvious, yes, I am autistic. I'm 25 years old, have a college degree, a place of my own, and a job as a chemist. Don't judge a condition by its sterotypes.

  • @allichem well said! xx

  • @butterflyhope1986 I'm with you 100% on that... thank you! I'm autistic and know a few who are also.. and believe me we think deeply... some are not as able as i am to communicate that across... others are. bless you :)

  • My daughter is also "gifted" i believe she may have inherited my condidtion... there are possitives all the time, why do people see the negatives... this line makes me want to vomit "according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" i cant believe that.. its horrible it is not a disaese so why the hell is that up there? these children are gifted, and are wonderful gifts to us... it "normal" peopel that have a propblem, not the child... enough said!

  • you make a mockey of the condidtion.. it is not something that need cured!!! it is a way of life, it needs support the conditon needs more understanding, and this view is exactly what makes the world respond to autistic children the wrong way... so many girls are undiagnosed and live misserably, just because they dont "fit the label" there are different ends of the spectrum, it looks to me as tho you are making fun, rather than adressing things properly... im sorry for harsh words,>

  • omg .. this is disgusting that you can see this as a disease!!! its not an illness its a way of life! im an aspie my friend i'm autistic and far as i see it in many ways i have gifts because of it.. but the other side of life has been very diffucult for me... all we need is support... and you are doing is reinforcing a label we try hard top fight.. we all have unique brains, but similar traits, some are more indented, others are milder. but this is really niave! and you make a mockey >

  • Me and her has something in common. I too am a gamer and I have autism.
