The naming's purely to try and distinguish different ways of executing the same techniques - frustrating for traditionalists, but on the other hand they are to keep techniques 'alive'.

@cyrax622 We know this. However, the technique does get confused in names. This can actually help describe variations. No, it's not correct naming, but does that really matter?

can be o goshi or tsuri goshi.... o tsuri does not exist by kodokan
this was tsuri goshi.... tori threw uke over his hip by grabing his belt..
