Here is a turn-key robotic box palletizing cell including inflow box conveyors, box locating crammers, inflow pallet conveyor, pallet locating crammers, and outflow pallet conveyors. The Fanuc S420iF robot with RJ-2 control utilizes a custom designed tool for box picking and placing, and pallet picking and placing. Complete PLC and color HMI round out the system for conveyor and system controls.

Part 2 shows box palletizing on both feed lines of the cell. Recent upgrades to the end of arm tool include an angular pneumatic gripper to assist the vacuum which will allow for even faster robot accelerations and faster cycle times. Additional vacuum booster pump was also added for better grip to deal with higher requested cycle times.

Notice that all labels are facing outward on each pallet. Other complex logic include setting the first box aside of each lot run (not each pallet), then once the operator notifies the robot of the last box being run, the robot will stack the last box, grab the first box, and stack it next to it. These are lot runs and the first box can be set aside for many pallets before being placed on the final pallet. A lot of complex robot programming and PLC logic is taking place during this time.

  • At least nobody is throwing their back out and wearing out their joints doing a job that a robot can do. People are not robots, to treat them as such is abuse.

  • Who wants to shift boxes all day every day? Especially if they are heavy and you've got to stack them high. Also do you really want to do that all night too, and at weekends?

  • Pointless mechanization. It's a false economy. A person could palletize them boxes in a fraction of the time and at a fraction of the cost. Awesome looking machine though!
