Those guys were TRUE super-heroes to me!

@Ferrari312pb In a TV interview, Stewart stated that Cevert's death at Watkins Glen had a very strong impact on his decision to stop racing. At that point he was on the fence about returning for one more year. He was disgusted by the ELF Team's owners reaction or rather lack or reaction to Cevert's death. Also a little know fact that, Cevert when he was 21 went to a palm reader with his girlfriend. The palm reader said that she did not see him reaching the age of 30, which came true.

Fantastic footage ! Looked like they were really getting a shift on at the first right-hander... .

Cevert's accident didn't prompt Stewart's retirement since he'd already decided to quit earlier that year.

I was at that F1 race, sitting in the esses.knew of the wreck, but didn't learn details 'til Autoweek came on Friday.sad,as were many results back then.Stew went on to reform much, all in the names of the many friends he saw pass on.

I read somewhere that when Cevert went off track and bounced his ELF along the top of the guardrail at the F1 race at Watkins Glen, the ELF team manager made Stewart inspect the wreckage to determine what went wrong. There were still small pieces of his friend's body in the cockpit, and this effected Stewart so much that he soon quit racing.

You're right:L&M sponsored Stewart in 1971.They would sponsor Penske in '72.

Atp917k30 was there! 69-73 got to see the bog monsters!

yeah - that was one totally awesome car - I remember Can Am as a kid and I had a slot car that was an exact replica of that car - I agree as well with the Shadow comments - anyone find anything?

I was looking for the small tire Shadow when I cam across this video. I've found some vintage race footage but the Shadows are always the newer ones after they went to a conventional front end set-up. I'd like to find the "Sucker" Chaparral also.
The black and white UOP was HOT!!!!

Indeed, it was quite cool! Too bad they were never able to get it together...

Thanks for the correction (been away or I'd have changed it earlier.) I knew it was either the Glen or RA. I figured I'd post it--I knew I'd find out that way!
