@TheDannyohyeah um, from what i've experienced it's way better than windows. Or at least the tech communities i've seen absolutely love it. For example, one has said when you see that an update is available for a; Mac-"Wow, only $99!" Windows-"Again!?" Linux-"cool, more free stuff"

The whole OS on mine is a few gigs, A little smaller than a standard XP installation, but I've added a lot of stuff not stock when you install it so mine is bigger than normal.
You can run steam using WINE, there's countless guides to gaming on Linux, I mostly console game so I am not a good source for info on it, but just google search "ubuntu gaming steam" and you should come up with something.

Not directly, however by identifying huge folders I've used it to free up space myself. I had 2 firefox profiles each with offline enabled and this showed me that each was 1.4 GB, so I dropped a profile to save space, that kind of thing.
