Yamaha RX17 exFade edition

Custom Yamaha RX-17 dum machine with super neato d-sub breakout switchy box plus pitch mod. breakout box has 18 bend switches, resulting in hecka possible combinations. pitch mod affects tempo and pitch unless rx17 is receiving a midi clock source, in which case, only pitch is affected. manual arythmic bass and snare drum rushes controlled by LFOs that are independent of the rx17's or midi clock.

Did you use a 555? And then just remove the crystal?

there are two 555 circuits inside it though, basic lfos, for the bass drum and snare drum rushes

I love the Rx17. I have one that i put a 27 point patchbay on made of roofing nails! Lots of fun.

Where the heck is the pitch bend on one of these??

thanks very much. unfortunately, there is no pitch bend available by default in the rx17. however, it is possible to replace the crystal with a variable oscilator. with no midi sync it affects pitch and tempo but with midi sync it just affects pitch.

How did you do the paint job, what kind of paint and prep was done?

Hi there. I was just over at getlofi and they reckoned the ltc1799 doesn't work with the RX-17, but you certainly seem to have managed it. They give "high pitched noise" as the reason. Have you come across this at any point? Or should I go straight ahead with the mod.

we used a LTC1799 based oscillator from getlofi,com

this went in place of the crystal
