Prelude footage to a check ride I did in this plane, which I filmed from the cockpit (to be in a separate video). Covers takeoff, a high speed flyby and landing/shutdown sequence.

  • Reference Robert Gruenhagen: "Mustang - the story of the P-51 Mustang". P-51 B,C,D,K, H all had Packard Merlin engines, due to license issued by British to U.S, to boost production quantities of the Merlin. The outcome was actually an improved engine. This is documented well in many publications, not just the one I mentioned. But, yes, kudos to the British for the wonderful Merlin from the start.

  • Sounds SWEET.

  • Where was this video filmed? Looks alot like KDNV and Midwest Aero Restorations I use to work for who do p-51 restorations there too. Guy does excellent work, but he is a crooked asshole outside of that

  • Good plane ,but for dog fight i would prefer la-7

  • @The506easy yes, this is Ike Enns' plane. I was privileged to fly her from back seat in Dec. 1996.

  • It sounds awesome during the flyby...

  • @cannissolis Packard Improved the supercharger, bearings & coolant flow in the engines. which gave them greater longevity between overhauls . They made a lot of small changes which made it easier to manufacture in mass quantities. It was a win/win for RR which included a lot of the changes in the Merlins they made as well.

  • @tommyg2156 Not true, the Spitfire had a kill to its name and the P-47 had a "kill" that wasn't confirmed. many 262's went down... you shouldn't state things like that if you don't know for sure.

  • Haven't read all the post on here so I don't know if it's been posted but I do beleive this is Ike Enns plane in Tulsa, Ok. I have seen this plane many times and it's alway a real joy to see this aircraft fly.

  • @Oztlund

  • sounds more nasty than a spitfire
