I have often wondered whether he truly knows just how beautiful his voice truly is! With this interview it explains why his soul is in the music... because he chooses it on a personal level; thus commercialism has not touched him! Thank goodness for that!

@SoulNotes1 You're right, the voice is the mirror of the soul. :-) Besides, he sure knows very well how to choose the repertoire that best fits to his voice. As for Schubert, I imagine that when thinking about a voice for his Lieder, he would have thought of Matthias' voice.

Totally agree! You can also find a good "making of" bonus dvd included in the album "Heliopolis", the fourth of the Schubert-Goerne Edition. It's a fantastic album, by the way!

Tengo dos de estos discos y encuentro que Goerne es un artista ya inmortal. Alumno aventajado de Dieskau y Schwarzkopf creo que será (es ya) la voz de Schubert en el siglo XXI...

Voy conduciendo tranquilamente al atardecer, tras un duro y prosaico día de trabajo. Bajo la capota de mi coche cuando el sol se está poniendo y el frescor de la noche comienza a descender. Subo a una montaña muy alta a contemplar el ocaso mientras escucho la voz de este hombre

Y, en verdad, no necesito otro Paraíso...
