Hi again! In this episode of TechBits I explain Hard Drive Specs, compare disk-based drives with Solid-State Drives, and more! How exciting!

  • Hi,I bought a 640 gb mechanical hardrive because the solid state were too small, the biggest solid state was 220 gb about wich is just big enough for sc2 and world of warcraft but its too small i wouldnt be able to put ne thing more in it.Is there bigger solid state hard drive?Or maybe we should expect bigger solid hard drives later on?Also i wonder if file takes less space on solid state hard drive,ty.

  • @nukemell There are larger SSDs, but they will be super expensive. Files take up the same amount of space regardless.

  • quick question are you and your brother of the jewish faith? is so shalom my brother

  • by heritage yes, though I am atheist.

  • Question - One of the things that you spoke of that stood out to me more than any other fact was the fact the SSD has a shorter life span overall. Do you have a general number associated with this degradation? I.E.; 30%, 50% less than mechanical hard drives. Great video excellent information and very well produced.

  • I didn't say it's shorter overall, I was just trying to explain that the flash can degrade with time, and eventually fail. I'm not certain of the time frame, but It's actually probably longer than most mechanical drives last.

  • . . . you didn't even show them performing? thanks for wasting my life. im never going to get back the minute i spent skipping through this video.

  • @nukemell sc2 and and wow with all expansions do not go over 50gb ..... your problem you got tons of porn on your pc

  • super informative. nice to consider the comparison of solid state versus mechanical

  • Very nice, I'll probably be getting one in my next machine which I'll use for gaming. It's awesome learning how it works underneath the hood.

  • 2,000 points for this video information.

P.S. defragmenting a Solid State Drive is not recomended, (or as you say needed), because of the re-writing to cells causing failer.

Windows is said to write to drives all the time in the background, (even without saving, etc), and this may cause the same problem with Solid State Drives.

Mechanical drives fail a lot of times, (incorrect data), but data correction in the drive electronics sorts this out on-the-fly so that a user will not notice.

  • Wonder when atom computers will start appearing, at the moment they are still simple calculators lol but that's how normal computers started out. When they do all this will be obsolete anyways.

  • Excellent Synopsis All important point covered for me I learned alot

  • Intel's supposed to be coming out with a 25nm process for SSD's (I think it was 25nm, might've been 32nm), so their prices should drop quite a bit.
