On March 1, 2009 I took my refab Blue Trek 850 on a little journey. The bike is set up with 700c x 38mm Schwalbe Marathon Winter studded tires. It's got a cross fork with nice cantis and a crappy rear caliper brake. I rode to the Hyalite Reservoir south of Bozeman. The road there includes a nine mile section with more than 2000 vertical feet of climb. Nothing crazy, just long and steady, and all this on a cold day after a storm with an inch of ice covering the mountain road. It was a blast. And here's a link to my trip on the Trimble Outdoors Allsport GPS website. I logged the journey with my Blackberry using their software.

Awesome. I live in the mountains in California and I can drive down to warmer weather to ride in the winter. I visit Big Sky and Bozeman every July. My wife grew up there. Good for you to ride under those conditions.

Wow! awesome movie! Even more incredible ride! I'm looking for a fixed as I type. I don't think I'll ever ride up Hyalite in the winter, but it was cool to see! good work, lostgears01. Very inspiring!
