Well a further hearing has confirmed my earlier thoughts: The great Richter is good in this rendition but does not possess the last ounce of polish so apparent in the earlier performances by both Binns and that of the GREAT Michael Ponti - there was only one Ponti (pity he never aspired to a better label than Turnabout/Vox/Candide) yes only in the latter years did he venture from the now extant recording companies...
On a 2nd hearing this is passable however is distant to both Binns and Ponti in regard to speed of execution (as per the score) however the interpretation is as always very intact.
Very unusual of the great Richter; this seems a very wayward and abstract performance which does not have any close proximity to the dexterous early performance by Michael Ponti.
I'm not to sure of this concerto. The slow sections seam to have only the purpose of building tension to be released in large cadenza-esque sections. These climaxes, however, seem to be just chords and/or octaves beating out a scale or the melody. I would have liked to have seen more methods used for the climaxes.
The orchestration, characteristic of Korsakov, is phenomenal. The performance itself is first rate, if with slightly sub-par sound quality.
Man, this concerto too is heavily indebted to Listz!

I begin to understand better the 1st piano concerto of Glazunov after this. It is very characteristic of Nikolai Andreevich!
