Its easy to see where Martin Gore drew a lot of his influence from. I've heard and seen a lot of Depeche Mode videos that have the feel of Catch That Look. And that's a compliment because I love DM.
I love ISC and Komputer, but I was p*ssed off with their Market Led album. It's disgraceful of them to be 'ironic' or whatever and produce an LP of utter rubbish, and a big departure from 'their' sound. They have a cult following, and many, like I, bought the LP on spec, because it was them, only to hear the horror that it was. Glad their 3rd Komputer album was back on form (though I felt many of the songs sounded unfinished)
But why? Why would you want to put irony on top of irony? That's like cheese with cheese on it. The songs of Kraftwerk are laced with irony... "By pressing down a little key it plays a little melody". No need for others to point out the humor in the concepts of Kraftwerk...
I understand your frustration with Komputer, but actually the charm of Komputer (and Fortran 5, if you like) is their total irony of everything 'kraftwerkish' and electronic dance music in general (including themselves, I guess) :) Personally, I am a fan of most of this duo's sound adventures - of course, I Start Counting is top of the game. 'Catch That Look' in particular. Cheers.
ISC was a nice sideproject with some rally loveable songs. Most of them were just fillers on the LPs, CDs. I've heard a Komputer CD and that was simply unbearable dull, mindless and pointless and absolutely unlistenable emptiness altough I've already got used to everything... That was one of the biggest shit I've ever came across but the first 2 ISC CDs are very recommended Depeche Mode relation.
