The Vilas Park Train was originally built sometime around the late 1920's. It was "refurbished" in the early 1950's and sold to the Lion's Club of Madison, WI. Who in turn donated the train to the Vilas Park Zoo. Around 1968 the train and carousel were removed and put into storage. The carousel was sold around 2005. I tracked down the train (which never got any press) and made arrangements with the City Of Madison to purchase the locomotive shell and car. The original engine was from a Crosley automobile. It was removed at some point when the train was in storage. It's whereabouts are unknown.

  • Hi Tim: I knew that had to be you that did this. Very few others would have the good sense and drive to try to resurrect such a great piece of Madison history. Thanks so much for doing this.
