Awo, the one that couldn't prosecute the war on a level playing ground, so he starved millions, think whatever you like. the war criminal that drank rat poison (like hitler) cos little ibb wanted to haul him to jail forth 3rd time. He must be rotten in hell now with hitler and saddam hussein his room mates. those dead biafran kids he starved are in heaven laughing at him now, they will haunt him for eternity.
Have any one noticed that the old politicians almost were from a well to do families or they are well to do. They move around in their own personal cars and not in fleet of cars. with sirens terrorizing everybody. Today they need security after they have stolen everything and they are afriad that nemesis with get to them.
The old politicians loved their hard earned achievements because they fought for independence and won that freedom after the colonial rules. They were ready to build our nation with dedication to equal the world standard of the time.Their dreams was to make Nigeria a very big and graceful nation. Politicians of today are behaving like spoilt sons of a rich man, they do not know the pains of making money, they have just inherited the whole world, they only know how to waste and not how to build.
@Abe5720 You guys are still yet to learn to appreeciate a Good leader, though Awolowo might have his human side, but i need you to learn to grade leaders in comparsm of thier achievement and how thier policies have touched the ordinary people within their reach. You will all agree with me that Awolowo has more positive achievment credited to him. stop this semtiment and think straight for once, Nigeria. every one benefited from his good policy, what good policy can you credit to the others?
@Abe5720 Obviously, your view of the contribution of these illustrious sons of Nigeria is coloured by oral tradition. But, I come from the other side; that of reading, research and familiarity with historical facts as documented by brilliant scholars with no ethnic interest to defend. Should you want to bestir and familiarise yourself with the facts, may I suggest you start with 'Essentials of Government' by Francis Adigwe? Then you'll be ready to engage in meaningful discussion.
Comparing the Zik of Africa and Awolowo of Ibadan is like comparing apples and oranges.Zik was in the pantheon of leaders like Kennedy, Ghandi, Martin Luther King and Churchhill. He was a Federal Assembly speaker, Governor General and President. Awolowo was an ex-convict and a treacherous and a dangerous ethnocentric joingoist. So you get the night and day the difference?
I do not agree that the Great Zik was "head and shoulders above his African contemporaries". But him with Awo, TB, Waziri, Okpara & co are surely head and shoulders above the current hordes of thieving politicians. Their generation's approach to politics was humane, disciplined, conscientious and geared towards the good of the greater number; as if they signed up to an ethical code to only eat after sowing. Generations since them have lack that. We'll miss them for a while yet.
