This tutorial explains how to modify inexpensive micro-cameras to disable the time/date timestamp overlay feature.

This is the second video in a 3-part series which explains how anyone with skill using basic tools can inexpensively modify one of these commonly available micro-cameras so that the date/time overlay is disabled.

The lack of a setting to shut off the date/time overlay in these micro-cameras has been a common complaint among users, so we have combined the groundwork done by several members of the Water Rocket Forum (waterrocketforum.com) with our own hardware and software talents and produced a video which we hope will be useful to the numerous people who own one of these cameras.

This segment details how we modify a Texas Instruments MSP430 Launchpad Evaluation Board for use as a Serial Flash Memory Programmer to modify the firmware chip extracted from one of these cameras in Part 1 of the tutorial.

(Special thanks to Chuck, Philippe, and Bill for their efforts in hacking these cameras)

  • for god shake!!! DO NOT DO THIS!!!!!!!

USE this program: logoaway 4.01 filter.

DO NOT OPEN THIS KIND OF DEVICES, YOU ARE GOING TO DAMAGE THEM..

    for sure.....

  • @mitropoulosilias software filters result in fuzze looking blobs in place of the time stamp that look WORSE than the time numbers themselves. You can buy these cameras for about $10 US, so the risk of damage is well worth the learning experience and getting the job done right.

  • I ordered the 808 car keys off ebay and it had a different chip than the f16 100 it was very cheap so im not at a lose i was wondering if you counld give me a link to one that has the same chip as yours please

  • @gunner505 In the end of the video we give attribution to a guy named Chuck Lohr. His website chucklohr(dot)com has the worlds most extensive listing of all the different keychain camera versions (there are 12+ of them now). The mod in this video is meant for the one referred to as "#3" because it is the best quality. The others are not as good, except the #11 version, which is true HD but costs much more. You should see his list of recommeded #3 camera sellers.

  • @Cureall Try the following site: digikey.com and look for part# W25X20BVSNIG-ND. They have a number of compatible parts that should be suitable.

  • Hi,

I've got a new #3 808 key cam with 1 MB firmware chip. The old version had a 2 MB chip. The frame-loss rate is very high and the image quality quite bad. I would really like to replace the chip with a 2MB one and flash the firmware. Do you know what flash memory I exactly need and where I can obtain it? I couldn't find a F16-100 chip.

Your video is really interesting and helpful.

    Regard
