As a cellist I just love the way the cello solo (starting around 6:00) goes like "oh, you think we end on that note? Well, no, we don't!", and then repeat it like "oh, you think we played a wrong note there? Well, fooled you again!" :P (yes, I know it's repeated by the horns a bit later in this movement)

anybody know when this recording was made?
-
One of the two greatest openings in all the repertoire-Mahler 3 is the other of course.
-
I love how before piece starts Tilson-Thomas has such a calm face, if you never heard the piece before you wouldn't expect such a HUGE opening.

The French Horn and the trumpet solis are awesome

Mr Thomas had licence Few conductures can approach this.,
A striking rendition by Tilson-Thomas and the San Francisco.
I have to check my tendency to blubber when I hear the mid-movement waltz, it's so achingly beautiful.
Thanks for this gem.

What a gem! I do not understand why just 767 views. The orquestra sound is majestic , exquisit and dreamlike interpretation with passionate romantic surges.
Thank you for posting it.
