I used to grill steaks, burgers and chicken on a BBQ grill with charcoal, but they were never tender, juicy and yummy delicious. I built myself a rocket stove and started cooking on a cast iron grill pan from Walmart and now I cook for free (no charcoal, lighter fluid, or time, money and effort spent getting these things).

Everything I cook on my rocket tastes absolutely wonderful, and all I have to do is throw in some twigs and small branches from the trees in my yard that died from the extreme drought we had last summer, and presto, chango, I'm ready to really cook!

If you want one too, send me a note and I will build you a good quality rocket stove for 30 bucks. Ya gotta buy your own grill pan!

  • Lodge Cast Iron is great, it is the last American made cast iron cookware company.

I just cooked my New Year breakfast Bone-in Ribeye steak on my Lodge Grill pan that I bought at a locally owned Farm and Fleet store. They sell Lodge gear for less than WallMart sells it for, and they even have sales on the stuff from time to time!

Buy Made In the USA, and buy from Locally owned busineses if possible!

    Great stove :)

  • @WisconsinEric - Hi Eric, thanks for the comment, however... I beg to differ with you on Lodge Ironware. It is manufactured in South Pittsburg TN and I have bought several pieces from Walmart over the years. I hate every piece! No matter how it's seasoned or how well it's greased, almost everything sticks to it. I finally called the company and asked what it was made of besides iron. Was told silicon. All I know is that it is not the right color, texture, or sticklessness-

  • as my mother's old cast iron skillets. I bought some old black iron skillets off of Craigslist and am going to clean them up and use them. If you notice, I use a lot of grease on my grillpan, thats because it a Lodge from Walmart!

  • what are you using as the exterior can/metal barrel?

  • @tommy0135 - it was a brand new, never used charcoal grill that I bought at a yard sale for a couple of bucks. I cut off the little legs, turned it on end, cut open one end and presto-chango instant rocket stove shell !

  • Neat Rocket stove...I was wondering how you discovered rocket stoves....and how long do your stoves last? My first and favorite stove didn't last as long as I thought it should...

  • I read an article about them in Mother Earth News Magazine decades ago. I wanted one ever since.

I've not had one "wear out". The only reason that I got rid of my old one was that it wasnt insulated and I just wanted a new one that was.
