中、長距離跑是一項距離較長的運動項目,因此在長時間的運動過程中,必須要講求技術動作的流暢性與省力,又因為它是包含了田徑場內、外的競技運動,運動員更要熟練適合各種­高低起伏、迂迴曲折、上、下坡等地形的跑步方式與技巧,其動作技術追求以最經濟、最省力、最有效率、以及協調、重心平穩的水平位移、良好的節奏、均勻的跑速、以及一定的步­幅與步頻去完成這項較長距離的長時間運動。

臀的轉動
由於雙肩是左右水平的轉動,臀為了要取得平衡及有利於跨大步伐,因而也自然的左右轉動,特別是訓練有數的運動員,臀的轉動和手臂的擺動以及腳的運作都附有韻律感與協調性,­臀部的動作在跑步時是極具重要性。
