This is a test run for the Eagle River High School's Robot Ramble event as a part of the Science Olympiad National Competition. The builders are Greg Hall and Nishant Ambasht, both grade 11.
You are right that you do get points for going to side A, but you appear to be confused about which side is A. According to part 3e of the 2008 robot ramble rules "Zone A will contain all the scorable items at the start of the competition." and part 3d. "Zone B will contain the starting position of the robot" I ended on the side with the scorable items and therefore got the bonus for returning to side A.
Indeed, the wheel did not go over the line. However, if you look on the rules, it is made clear that you are supposed to go back to A side for 15 points, and at the end of the video and your run at nationals your robot is on B side. Trust me on this one, I just checked the rules and I am right: you get points for going back to A side. Go check for yourself in the rule book!
No we did get full points for this run (and the run at nationals as well), you are wrong. Trust me on this one, I read the rules very carefully more times than I care to remember and so did my partner and coach. We made sure in both cases that the wheel did not go over the line (although it did get close on some runs). This year I have lent all my parts to the local middle school and am helping them with robo cross. Things look fairly promising so far.
No, that's wrong. You get points for going back to A side, which does not have the batteries and cards. And even if it had been b side, the the back wheel to the viewers' left was on the the A side. I noticed that you made this mistake at nationals, and inquired about it. They confirmed that you needed to go fully to A side. Because of this, it seems that neither you, nor anyone else at nationals got a perfect score.
I think most people (including us) went with the box lifter because of the difficulty in getting the notecards. If the cards don't get replaced after some teams go, they get wrinkled.
At regionals, we spent almost a minute and 30s trying to get under a notecard (from what I've heard, this also happened to Troy at nationals).
Even though the goal box's mass slowed our robot by about 30s at nationals, it's still better than the time we spent trying to get under a notecard sometimes.

If I hadn't seen you guys at nationals, I would've definitely thought you guys edited the video to speed up parts of the run haha.

Because you get points for being on the B side. (iirc. It's the side that has the batteries and note cards.)

Awesome performance, WSM. I wish I were there to see it.
I remember at the beginning of the season when everyone said we needed to lift the box to do it fast because the items were too heavy.
You've really proven that the extra weight is no competition against a bucketload of cash. :P
