Love the old power edge... I've got mine running ubuntu server and its been hosting my website for nearly 5 years.. got it used off ebay for $400.. brand new it was about $5k

lol yeah good servers, bit outdated nowdays though, mine unfortunately is sitting in the closet now :(

hi lukealderton19, quick question, I just got my first poweredge it's a 2850. I know it has hot swap. So I have 3 hdd and I took one out, I thought it would be like a usb drive, you know, a sound and an icon in the taskbar telling you it's out. Instead, it is still in "My computer" and later in the taskbar says like an error message saying it doesn't detect the hdd. Any way I can plugin it again and works, but... is it how it should be? or should I download any utility? Thanks

yeah i had similar problems, its something to do with the configuration, cant remember how though been a while since i used it :P

Just recently obtained a poweredge 2600 dirt cheap. Fully function but is there any was to turn down the fans? not keeping mine up 24/7 and im running ubuntu server.

I know its not great, but its just a file server so it dosen't have to be powerful.
