It doesn't charge through there. When its about to die there's another plug in there that hooks up to the solar panel in the sun roof. Only problem is that it only works on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. If you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS then you have to purchase an adapter. You can get them at any store that sells electronic devices. They run anywhere from 150 - 250 dollars. Hope this helps!!!!

Two questions:

1.is it supposed to be purchased no matter what trim level of the car you buy? Or does the cable come included with the car on certain trim levels (LX, SX, etc)

2.if used with an iPhone, will it also charge it while playing music?

Hi I rented a 2011 Kia sorento that have a iPod jack like that under the radio but I just want 2 use the charger USB cable how do I get 2 work ???

Thanks! Just bought the Kia Forte and I've been trying to get this to work. My iPod connector doesn't work but I'll try using the aux port at the same time. *cross fingers*

i connected my ipod to my sisters kia soul with the regular ipod usb cable and it worked the same.

Now why can't Kia put this in the very thick owner's manual??? It would have saved me a lot of aggravation.
