Here's a reissue of the Wailers' Imperial album from the early '60s, after the original version of "Tall Cool One" on Golden Crest had charted once again. Frustrated with their deal with the New York label, the group went into the studio, recut their hit, and packaged it with a brace of loose instrumental workouts and a trio of vocals. One of those vocals is the original Northwest cut of "Louie Louie," featuring an inspired vocal by the legendary Rockin' Robin Roberts, being the version that inspired the Kingsmen and launched a million frat bands worldwide. WOW!! The first album cover on this video is the record I grew up with and may still have in my collection, but I am so disillusioned!! This is the first time in my life (and I'm 53) that I have ever SEEN the Wailers, and I'm duly disappointed. I thought they were black.

Ah, now that's the version I remember. Every other post of this tune has the original Golden Crest recording, but the first one I ever heard was the Imperial remake, and I've been looking for it. Thanks for putting this up.

I have this album in my collection also. The flip side of the Tall Cool One 45 was called "The Roadrunner" and this 45 became a double sided hit because of it.  Anybody got a copy of the Beachcombers song "The Wheelie"?? Also a great single by a group from the coast.....ABERDEEN-HOQUIAM area.

Great pix! I wish the recording was up to the normal "John..." standards. A fine instrumental otherwise. One of my faves. I wonder where my tall, cool one went?
